Energy Eggfarm stays in control of its grid connection

Intelligent control at connection level

“For us, clarity is key. We want to know where we stand and be confident that everything stays within the limits of the grid connection. Eddy Grid helps us set this up properly.” Douwe de Jong, Energy Eggfarm

Douwe de Jong of Energy Eggfarm works with Eddy Grid at two locations, each with a combination of battery storage, wind and solar. For both grid connections, Eddy Grid provides control through the EMS, energy supply and BRP services. This approach goes beyond optimizing individual assets. The focus is on the grid connection as a whole, from using flexibility to capturing opportunities across multiple markets.

Energy Eggfarm was introduced to Eddy Grid through an advisor. What stood out immediately was the way of working. No standard pitch, but a joint exploration of what fits the business and the specific grid connection.

That way of working fits well with how Douwe himself views the energy market. Having recently completed the Data Driven Organizing program at TU Eindhoven, he sees how important it is to base decisions increasingly on data, especially in a market that is changing rapidly.

Technology plays an important role, but it is not the goal in itself. The focus is on practical choices that work in day-to-day operations and bring peace of mind.

Finding what works together

From the start, Douwe saw opportunities in smart algorithm-based control and multi-market optimization. The fact that Eddy Grid combines this with energy supply and BRP services added extra value. One modern partner that organizes the full picture, without unnecessary bureaucracy. The collaboration has been positive so far. Learning step by step, fine-tuning the configuration, and consistently staying within the boundaries of the connection.

Two connections, two configurations

The two locations are different, which means each requires its own setup. Together, clear agreements were made about objectives and how to achieve them. The key principle is to think in terms of the grid connection, not individual assets. Ultimately, the connection defines what is possible and how assets can reinforce each other.

Advice for other entrepreneurs

Douwe de Jong’s main advice to other entrepreneurs, especially in agriculture, is to focus on what feels right for you as a business owner and build step by step. Start, for example, with an EMS and a battery. Develop this in a controlled way and take all aspects into account. The whole is often more than the sum of its parts. An asset may seem less profitable on its own, but at grid connection level it can create more value or reduce costs when combined with others.

Why this matters 💡

Smart control at grid connection level delivers:

  • Less risk of grid connection issues
  • Greater control over energy and costs
  • Better use of existing assets

To support concrete decision-making, Eddy Grid offers a Quick Scan with simulations. Based on the past twelve months, this shows what additional assets or a different configuration would have meant in terms of returns, costs and flexibility. It provides clear scenario insights and helps build a solid business case for investments.
